Progressive Supper 2025
The surplus proceeds from the Progressive Supper are invested in local charitable and worthy causes, and in previous years have supported the maintenance of the recreation ground and the defibrillator. This year we’d like to give those who attended the chance to choose the causes that receive the surplus money as a charitable donation. The donations will be made in proportion to the votes received.
We have selected the usual recipients, plus the Selborne church building repairs project. A description of where each charity will use the funds is below – read through, pick your favourite, and then scroll down to complete the voting form. One vote per individual attendee.
Charitable Giving
Selborne Womens’ Institute
Selborne W.I is a charity which raises awareness (and funds indirectly) for other charities – the most recent being the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. The W.I. supports local events like Fosstival, the Zig Zag Fest and the Christmas Fair as well as wider causes. Any donation helps us to keep afloat, provide a variety of interesting and educational speakers for our ladies and often a wider local public audience. More broadly we create a supportive society for our members and the wider village community e.g. training in the use of our village defibrillator, so that as bystanders we can be lifesavers. This is this year’s national resolution.
St Mary’s Church. Selborne, Building Appeal
In the heart of our village stands the 800 year old Grade 1 listed St. Mary’s Church. As you’d imagine, an ancient building is both a valued treasure, and a maintenance headache. In the last year a huge project has had to be undertaken to fix dry rot and this month the boilers have been declared unsafe. Unfortunately, despite the importance of these buildings to both our history and current community, we receive no funds from the central church to help keep the building safe, stable and open, and depend entirely on the generosity of the village and the visitors it helps attract. Any donation will help to support the care and maintenance of this important historic building which for so long has sat at the centre of community life in Selborne.
Selborne Lunch Club
The Lunch club is run by volunteers each 3rd Wednesday in the village hall and offers a friendly social gathering over a shared lunch. Open to everyone, its an important fixture on Selborne’s monthly village life to bring our community together. Its volunteers would be happy to receive a donation to support their important work offering warmth, friendship and delicious lunch in our village.
Selborne Parish Council
Last year donations were given to provide essential maintenance for the defibrillator, and the Parish Council will nominate a specific purpose for any donated funds.
